Tennessee BPW Members meet Supreme Court Justice

Left to Right:  Mary Jo Middlebrooks, Sandra Day O'Connor, and Beth Bates

BPWTN Attorney Mary Jo Middlebrooks and BPWUSA AR 6 Rep Beth Bates, both of Jackson, represented our organization at a workshop co-sponsored by BPWTN called "Everyday Politics for Everyday Women."  Subsequent to the workshop held October 26, 2008, at the Airport Marriott in Nashville, they attended a reception honoring the speakers at the next day's Economic Summit for Women, entitled "Connect, Collaborate and Celebrate."  The featured luncheon speaker was the first female Justice on the United States Supreme Court,  Sandra Day O'Connor. At the luncheon, O'Connor spoke of the need for civic education for our children. At the reception, she signed her books and talked about the BPW members' work and hometown. The experience was "supreme," according to Middlebrooks.
